It seems like the latest food craze sweeping into cafe's across the United States is the Acai bowl. But what is Acai, and how can it help you live a healthier life?
There are many individuals within the health and wellness community claiming that Acai berries are the newest superfood to be added to the list. This is largely due to acai berries being packed with antioxidants.
Well, here at NANO, we caught wind of this latest craze and decided to dive a little deeper exploring if these berries were everything that they've been hyped up to be. As we started diving deeper into the literature we knew we had to create a product utilizing the antioxidant power of acai berries. Not only did we want to formulate this supplement to maximize the berry's benefits but make it affordable and easy to take.
As a result, we created NANO AcaiDetox, an acai based capsule utilizing nanotechnology aimed at helping restore the body's natural balance. Taking AcaiDetox daily can not only help boost your immune system with a steady stream of powerful antioxidants but can also be beneficial to those who are fasting or undertaking a cleanse. It can also be supplemented during cold and flu season for an added immune defense.
Below you'll find background information and research surrounding the Acai berry and learn about some of the health benefits it can provide.
"Not only did we want to formulate this supplement to maximize the berry's benefits but make it affordable and easy to take."
Acai berries are inch round fruits, similar in appearance to blueberries, that grow on acai palm trees in the rainforests of Central and South America. They have dark purple skin and yellow flesh surrounding a large seed (1).
In the cultures surrounding these rainforests, like the Amazon, acai berries are often incorporated into a variety of traditional meals. While these cultures may have known about the incredible benefits of acai for generations; we are just beginning to uncover the science behind their benefits. The most powerful benefits coming from the naturally occurring antioxidant compounds produced within the fruit.
Acai berries are most notorious for the major antioxidant boost they provide, but what exactly are antioxidants? Well, as a result of either exercise, stress, or even functions of daily living our body produces oxidants, better known as free radicals. These free radicals can cause damage to tissues within the body. Antioxidants, help combat these free radicals by binding and neutralizing them.
If gone unchecked, damage from free radicals can lead to a number of diseases, including diabetes, cancer, and heart disease (2). Acai berries have very high amounts of antioxidants, boasting an even better antioxidant output than other antioxidant-rich fruits like blueberries and cranberries (3).

The most impressive of the many antioxidants found within Acai berries are anthocyanins. These compounds give a deep purple color to the skin of acai berries and also work as antioxidants within the body. Anthocyanins can also be found in other blue, black, and purple foods, such as black beans and blueberries (1). However, as we previously stated, Acai berries seem to be particularly abundant with these antioxidants.
The antioxidant content of foods is typically measured by an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) score. In the case of acai, 100 grams of frozen acai pulp has an ORAC of 15,405, whereas the same amount of blueberries has a score of 4,669 (5). That's almost 3.5 times more antioxidant power per gram!
The anthocyanins aren't the only antioxidant compounds within acai berries. There are countless other compounds within the fruit that have been observed to have antioxidant effects (6, 7). In fact, in 2008, researchers gave 12 fasting volunteers acai pulp, acai juice, applesauce, or a non-antioxidant drink on four separate days and tested their blood for circulating antioxidants after each visit. They found that not only was the acai easily absorbed by the gut but that they also produced a significant elevation in the participants circulating antioxidant levels (8).
While acai berries can be deliciously enjoyed in an acai bowl as pictured above, it may not be feasible to have an acai bowl every day to get that extra boost of antioxidants. That's why we've extracted the beneficial antioxidant compounds within acai berries and packed them in a convenient, easy to take daily capsule. Each pack of NANO AcaiDetox contains 90 capsules (30 servings) and works out to cost just under $0.67 per day if used as a daily supplement.
Give NANO AcaiDetox a try today, and let us know how acai helped you!
Tips from the Pros:
Natural extracts like acai, are readily absorbed regardless of if you are fasted or have recently eaten. If taken as a daily supplement we suggest taking it first thing in the morning.
While taking acai capsules every day will give you a natural antioxidant boost, it doesn't have to be taken as a daily supplement. You can also choose to take it after a particularly stressful day or intense workout to get extra antioxidants to help with muscle damage and soreness.
